We got up early (or not) on Thursday and headed for Columbia. By 5pm, we had shoved all of our equipment into the control room and left to enjoy dinner with Sophie's mom and stepdad. After much baklava and even more Hitler references, we drove back to the studio singing along with Sgt. Pepper.

Once we got everything comfortably hooked up, Mills left for his grandparents' house and Ben, Alex, Sophie and I decided to stay and record something. That something turned out to be "God Is A Bullet", with Ben's toy drum machine and 2 acoustic guitars. Alex dubbed a groovy bassline, and I played some electric wah-guitar and sang over it, and we decided to call it a night.

We ended up at Alex's apartment that night, drinking and playing swaggering blues songs...only to find ourselves in the IHOP talking to Janice about sex and health problems. We finally all laid down on our air matresses and sleeping bags and watched the "Jupiter and beyond the infinite" sequence of 2001: A Space Odyssey until we passed out.

Friday we all woke up around noon and had alcohol for breakfast, played Abbey Road and Schoenberg and waited for Mills to call. Walked to Cool Beans and actually had breakfast, walked back to Alex's apartment just in time to escape the massive sheets of rain.

By mid-afternoon, we had gained access to the studio, and Mills arrived and we helped him unload his drumkit. The next 4 hours were patiently devoted to drum, bass, keyboard, and guitar soundchecks, and making more stupid inside jokes. By nightfall we started recording.
